Council committees
We coordinate a range of committees and groups to provide advice to the Council on specific issues.
Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) is an advisory committee that promotes good corporate governance and provides independent assurance and assistance to the General Manager and elected Council on:
- Compliance;
- Risk management;
- Fraud control;
- Financial management;
- Governance;
- Implementation of the Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) framework;
- Service reviews;
- Collection of performance management data by Council; and
- Any other matters prescribed by legislation.
The ARIC meets at least four times each year.

There are five members of the ARIC, comprising three independent external members and two Councillor representatives.
The three independent external members are appointed by Council for a three-year term. The current independent external members are:
- Mr Michael O'Connor, Chairperson;
- Ms Trish Kirkland, Deputy Chairperson; and
- Mr Tony Harb.
The two Councillor representatives are appointed by Council for a one-year term. The current Councillor representatives are:
- Cr Donna Lawson; and
- Cr Terry Cohen.
Community Advisory Group
The Community Advisory Group (CAG) provides strategic advice to Council on matters pertaining to local community initiatives and provides a forum to actively engage with community stakeholders.
Meeting frequency: Monthly.
General Manager's Performance Review Panel
The General Manager's Performance Review Panel is delegated the task of conducting the General Manager's performance reviews in accordance with the Office of Local Government's Guidelines for the Appointment and Oversight of General Managers. The role of the panel includes:
- Conducting performance reviews;
- Reporting the findings and recommendations of those reviews to Council; and
- Developing the General Manager’s performance agreement.
Meeting frequency: As needed.
Local Traffic Committee
The Local Traffic Committee (LTC) is a technical review committee which advises Council on certain prescribed traffic control devices and traffic control facilities. Council is required to obtain the advice of Roads and Maritime Services and the Police prior to proceeding with any proposal.
Meeting frequency: As needed.
Summerhill Lodge Advisory Group
The Summerhill Lodge Advisory Group provide strategic advice to Council on matters relating to the Summerhill Lodge facility and provides a forum to actively engage with the facility residents and the Werris Creek community on a range of matters relating to Summerhill Lodge.
Meeting frequency: As needed.
