A $1 million investment by Liverpool Plains Shire Council in road pavement rehabilitation on Coonabarabran Road will be completed by the end of the month, weather dependent.

This work between Caroona Feedlot and Yarraman Creek and in the village of Spring Ridge, is in addition to shoulder rehabilitation works by Council between the Kamilaroi Hwy and Caroona completed earlier this year at a cost of $350,000.

More pavement upgrades on Coonabarabran Road will be undertaken when funding becomes available. These works are necessary to meet the demands of increasing heavy traffic flow as well as prolonging the life of the asset.

In the last 12 months more than $4.5 million has been invested by Council on road projects in the shire including sealing a 3.5km section of Blackville Rd ($460,000); sealing Callaghans Lane ($750,000); Centre St, Quirindi Upgrade ($600,000); Drainage Improvements Allnut St, Quirindi ($200,000); Rehabilitation of Unsealed Roads ($650,000). Single Street Werris Creek between Kurrara and Gordon Streets will be rehabilitated during November along with new kerb and gutter and footpath ($250,000). In addition, Council completed a resealing program ($400,000).

Rehabilitation on a 4.8 km section of Morduval Lane ($1,360,000) will begin in the New Year along with rehabilitation of 10km on Bulunbulun Road ($1,360,000). $630,000 for improvements to Bundella and Blackville Roads and a $700,000 reseal program will be carried out this year as well.

All works have and will be carried out by Council staff with assistance from contractors as required.

Liverpool Plains Shire Council General Manager Jo Sangster said rehabilitating and upgrading roads in the shire was an important part of a Freight Development strategy that was approved by Council in its September meeting.

“It is estimated there are about 90,000 heavy vehicle journeys each year in our shire.

“Council knows that if we can provide the best roads and access points in the Shire, it is a win-win for everyone involved,” she said.
