National Recycling week is held from 8 to 14 November, with a reminder from the Liverpool Plains Shire Council to the community: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The Quirindi Waste Management Facility with the support of Northern Inland Regional Waste, is hosting a Chemical CleanOut day at the Quirindi Waste Management on Friday 12 November between 9am and 4pm.

The CleanOut day is an opportunity for the free disposal of a host of household products. These include garden chemicals, pool chemicals, household cleaners and hobby chemicals, poisons, batteries paint, motor oils, fluids and fuel, fluoro lights, gas bottles, fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.

The CleanOut day is consistent with Council’s call to residents and ratepayers to increase the effort to reduce the amount of material that is being sent to landfill, as well as reuse or recycle materials that are being dumped.

Research indicates that three out of four Australians are ‘concerned’ or ‘very concerned’ about waste, however there are different points of view on the topic. For the older generations, reducing landfill was more significant younger Australians were more motivated by the potential of recycling to combat climate change and save wildlife.

LPSC General Manager Jo Sangster said Council is encouraging locals to broaden their recycling habits.

“When we recycle it’s not only a plus for the environment but for the economy as well.”

Last August, through its affiliation with Northern Inland Regional Waste, LPSC offered to provide free problem waste storage boxes to the community.

These kits are designed to store problem waste until ratepayers are able to visit the Quirindi Recycling Centre to dispose of the items.

These are provided to store waste that should not be disposed of through your roadside collection bins due to the environmental impacts they can have if they go into landfill.

The kits are available free for collection at LPSC’s Administration Centre in Station Street Quirindi.
