Liverpool Plains Shire Council has placed the draft Visitor Economy Strategy on public exhibition for a period of 28 days and invites public submissions during this period.

LPSC General Manager Jo Sangster said the strategy is part of the Council’s draft Economic Development Strategy that will identify the areas of Council’s work that have the potential to really impact the local economy.

She said the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic had been unusual and a quite difficult time for many, especially those in tourism-based small business.

Council wants to encourage its community members to invite their family and friends to come here for those catch ups and it will continue to do what it does every day to make sure people want to have those catch ups here.

Tourism Australia suggests that these visits will drive travel patterns in the short term while travel to overseas destinations is difficult to achieve.

“The Liverpool Plains is currently in all its splendour with bumper crops being harvested and local wildflowers looking absolutely fantastic. at present and the Liverpool Plains is an easy drive from the big population centres. So now is the time to tell family and friends to come and pay us a visit,” Ms Sangster said.

The NSW Government estimates it may take two to three years for the visitor economy to recover, Council has taken those circumstances into account in this strategy.

The Council’s strategy in the Visitor Economy Strategy centres on four principles. In total there are 15 actions and a timetable for delivering those actions.

“These actions will support our local traders and community groups to rebuild and position the Liverpool Plains when NSW is back at capacity.”
