Golland Fields upgrade provides for improved player experience

The Liverpool Plains Shire’s vision to develop its sporting precincts continues to move forward with the grounds at Golland Fields recently being resurfaced to eliminate unevenness over the playing surfaces.
Council have spread 950 tonnes of loam to fill in the depressed areas of the grounds. The existing grass surface will regenerate through the loam over the next few months in readiness for commencement of the cricket season in October 2022. Under normal situations this type of project would have been carried out during spring or summer. However, it was necessary to minimise the impact on the sporting bodies that will utilise Golland Fields over the coming winter months.
Mayor, Doug Hawkins OAM said that that this is great news for the large number of sporting organisations that utilise the grounds as they will have an improved level playing field for sporting competitions and training. This also provides a much safer environment for those players that are using the facilities.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council applied for and was successful in gaining $550,000 through the State Governments’ Drought Stimulus Program and under that funding new change room facilities have been constructed at Golland Fields. The structure includes change rooms for two sporting teams with each room containing shower facilities and a separate room for referees.
“These two projects were incorporated in Council’s adopted Recreation Strategy and they give our local and visiting sportspeople a safer and more enjoyable experience in their chosen field of competition,” Councillor Hawkins concluded.
