Road pavement upgrade in Signal Street between Kurrara and Gordon Streets Werris Creek is well underway, Liverpool Plains Shire Council Mayor, Cr Doug Hawkins OAM said.

He said Council staff are rehabilitating the section of Single street between Kurrara and Gordon Streets, which includes a new footpath and replacement of the old kerb and gutter.

“Our council staff have done a terrific job with the work, despite some heavy falls of rain that slightly slowed their progress.

“Once the footpath is completed, work will begin on the road pavement, consisting of a pavement overlay and seal. Once completed the pavement will have a renewed 30-year lifecycle.

“The total cost of the project is $210,000 and funded by the REPAIR programme for regional roads.

“Other works planned for Werris Creek this financial year is the replacement of the substandard kerb and gutter in Poole St.

“This project adds to the work undertaken with the $275,844 invested on the footpath between Coronation Avenue and Poole Street, Werris Creek.

“That included paved footpaths and improvements to the kerb, gutter, and parking lanes.

“This project was in part funded as a result of LPSC's successful application for $372,456 through the NSW Government's Building Stronger Communities Program, obtained with the support of Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson.

“The remaining $96,612 went in an extension of the Werris Creek shared pathway to David Taylor Oval, connecting the Freedom Campground with an existing path to the town’s retail and key tourist attractions,” Cr Hawkins said.
