The contribution by volunteers and community groups in the towns and localities of the Liverpool Plains Shire Council cannot be ignored, the Mayor, Cr Doug Hawkins OAM said.

Cr Hawkins said as the current council is only weeks away from entering a caretaker stage before the Local Government elections, he and his elected colleagues wanted to place on the record their appreciation of the efforts of those who give time and support so willingly and freely to this community.

“The recent pop-up Covid-19 Pfizer vaccination clinics organised by the Royal Flying Doctor Service with Winanga-Li is just one example of community volunteer groups standing up for their communities,” Cr Hawkins said.

“Giving their time generously at the vaccination clinics were the State Emergency Service, RFS, VRA, NSW Fire and Rescue, the CWA as well as the Lions and Rotary Clubs.

“There are so many stories of locals working behind the scenes, not seeking reward, or headlines, to make a difference to people who are in trouble or need a hand.

“If there is a flood, fire, drought or some other natural disaster or emergency, our community volunteers stand tall.

“Our volunteers also help support important community assets, like the Quirindi Heritage Village, the Royal Theatre and our showgrounds, they are keeping an eye on our many community facilities.

“We also see them in our community sporting organisations, tennis clubs, bowling clubs and pony clubs, our volunteers are out there in the community, in plain sight and they keep on turning up to help us all.

“On behalf of the Council and all our Liverpool Plains people, thank you for your efforts and your service, we wouldn’t be a community without you,” Cr Hawkins said.
