Liverpool Plains Shire Council honours its volunteers

Many of us aspire to retain our independence and our interests as we gain in years.  For the past thirty years, Liverpool Plains Shire Council has supported our community’s senior citizens to realise this aspiration through its Home and Community Care and Community Home Support Programs.

Liverpool Plains Shire Council Mayor, Cr Doug Hawkins OAM said our expectations of ageing have changed. We want to live our days to the full, to continue our social activities and to remain living in our own home for as long as possible.   The services that enable us to do this have expanded and changed considerably.

“During our recent Community Strategic Planning consultations, our community identified access to support services as one of its highest priorities. The increasing complexity of the aged care system demands specialist expertise to ensure our senior citizens receive the care, attention and services they deserve,“ he said.

From 1 July 2022 Liverpool Plains Shire Council will work in partnership with Go Co Care to deliver the Community Home Support Program across the Liverpool Plains Shire Council. Go Co Care has a proven track record in supporting people to access opportunities, services and support including In-home support, group activities, regular outings, transport services and meals on wheels.  Council and Go Co Care have worked hard to ensure that the transition will be seamless.

“To honour the clients, carers and volunteers of the Community Home Support Program, Council is hosting a morning tea, at 11am on Wednesday 25 May at the Council Chambers in Quirindi.

“Council will take this opportunity to show our respect and gratitude to the clients, carers and volunteers and answer any questions regarding the new partnership with Go Co Care,” Cr Hawkins said.

Clients, carers and volunteers will receive their invitations in the coming days, and information will be available on Council’s website and social media pages.
