The Liverpool Plains Shire Council’s new Councillors today took their oaths and affirmations of Office, held their first meeting and voted unanimously to elect Cr Doug Hawkins OAM as the Mayor, with Cr Ken Cudmore, as the Deputy Mayor.
The rest of the new Council includes Councillor Paul Moules, who was the only other returned candidate from the 4th LPSC, with new faces Cr Donna Lawson, Cr Jason Allan, Cr Terry Cohen, and Cr Yvonne Wynne.
Cr Hawkins said he is excited for the prospects of the new Council and “can’t wait to get stuck in”.
“I’m really keen to get stuck into the projects we’ve got underway. I’m excited with this new Council, I think it’s going to be a really good Council,” Cr Hawkins said.
“Now we need to get on with the projects like the Quipolly Water Project, the implementation of the Council’s Waste Management Strategy, and the massive roads program we are undertaking.
“There is a whole heap of work to do, but I’m excited and the next 12 months is going to be a really exciting time for the Liverpool Plains. People need to know that we’re open for business”.
Cr Cudmore said he was looking forward to continuing to develop Council’s road strategy.
“We’re a rurally-based economy, so we need invest in our rural roads network and drive our economic growth.
“We need more ratepayers, we need a bigger rate base, so we are going to be a can-do Council that is open for any businesses that turn up,” he said.
Cr Cudmore said Council’s water security strategy is paramount and the region has plenty of space for industrial use.
“I can see a really good future for a small Council,” he said.
The Statutory requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 requires a Councillor induction program, which outlines the roles and responsibilities of Mayors and Councillors in a series of workshops held today and early next week.
