Australia Day Award Nominations Open

Nominations for Liverpool Plains Shire’s annual Australia Day Awards are open, offering an opportunityto recognise people who have made vital contributions to our community during 2024.

Not only are the awards a great opportunity to honour citizens of all ages and local groups for all their hard work and achievements, they present an opportunity to inspire the next generation to step up and make a difference too.

Our community in the Liverpool Plains is supported by a group of incredibly dedicated individuals, volunteers and groups that deserve recognition for all the hard work they put in.

“Now is the time to step up and nominate them for the Australia Day Awards, so that they can be honoured and thanked for the tremendous contributions they make”, commented Mayor Ken Cudmore.

The awards cover the 2024 calendar year to date and will be announced at an Australia Day Awards presentation to be held on Sunday, 26 January 2025.

The categories of the awards include:

Citizen of the Year– open to persons aged 18 years or older on 26 January 2025.

They will be assessed on the commitment the nominee shows to the community through their various community-based activities over the last 12 months. Nominees who showcase, promote or act as an ambassador for our district at regional, state or national levels will be well regarded.

Young Citizen of the Year – open to persons under 18 years of age on 26 January 2025.

Nominees will be assessed on the commitment theyshow to the community through their various community-based activities over the last 12 months. Nominees who showcase, promote or act as an ambassador for our district at regional, state or national levels will be well regarded.

Local Legend award  this award seeks to recognise those individuals who have worked tirelessly without recognition behind the scenes to support an organisation in its activities, or an individual, in achieving success in a chosen field.

Sportsperson of the Year – open to persons 18 years or older on 26 January 2025

The nominees will be assessed on the sporting achievements of the nominee. The number of different sports at which the nominee excels and the level at which they represent including local, regional, state or national. It can also be awardedin recognition of those men or women who have given outstanding service to a sport or a sporting organisation over many years.

Junior Sportsperson of the Year – open to persons under 18 years of age on 26 January 2025

The nominees will be assessed on their sporting achievements; the number of different sports at which the nominee excels and the level at which they represent including local, regional, state or national. It can also be given on recognition of those men or women who have given outstanding service to a sport or a sporting organisation over many years.

Marie Maunder Community Service Award – this seeks to recognise an individual who has made an ongoing and outstanding contribution to community service to the Liverpool Plains district and who has advanced the standing and contributed to the wellbeing of the Liverpool Plains community.

Emergency Services Community Award – As well as looking at contributions within a nominee’s given emergency service agency, judges will be specifically looking for examples of additional community services the nominees have performed above and beyond their normal services duties.
