Notice of Adoption of Keeping of Animals in Residential Areas Policy 2023
Notice is hereby given that at its meeting on 13 December 2023, Council resolved to adopt the Animals in Residential Areas Policy which will come into effect as at the date of this notice.
The adopted Policy was developed to replace the existing Policy and includes:
- Broaden the application of the policy to include closely settled areas within the Rural zones.
- Revised limit on the number of animals that are permitted to be kept.
- Confirmation that there is no distinction between companion animals and working animals.
- Reinforcement of the prohibition on the keeping of pigs under the Local Government Regulation.
- The prohibition of the keeping of geese on lots under 4,000m2.
- Reinforcement of the restrictions on the keeping of cattle and horses under the Local Government Regulation.
