Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) recently held an official presentation to representatives of the six community groups who were successful in their application for the current round of the 2021/2022 LPSC Community Funding Program.
Mayor Doug Hawkins said it was an honour to be able to formally recognize these organisations and the benefits that they can provide to the community, and the local region, through additional events and improved facilities.
Werris Creek Rugby League Club received $1,000 for the hosting of an Old Boys Charity Event. Jason Leonard said the club was very appreciative of the funding and that it will go a long way in ensuring a successful event with increased patronage.
Quirindi Rotary Club representative, Jim McDonald said the $2,000 they received from the Community Fund allowed them to host a highly successful Managing Mental Health event. The event attracted more people than expected and this was a great opportunity to raise awareness of mental health in our community.
Michael Pryer, Quirindi Bowling Club, said that the $1,500 they received will greatly help them with their celebration of 100 years and the upcoming October Open Carnival. It also will assist them in promoting the sport of bowling within the community.
Quirindi & District Equestrian Club received $2,110. Robin Allport, Grants Officer, said she was delighted to learn of their successful application for the LPSC Community Fund. The funding will be used to purchase a sound system to enable us to communicate on a large scale with spectators and riders on our competition days It will enable the club to now provide freestyle competitions to music that will attract more spectators and competitors from outside the region.
Graham McKellar and Gwen Benham from the Quirindi Sporting Clay Target Club were very pleased to receive $1,390 for their Annual Charity Shoot. The funding will go towards promotion of the event and prizes. The money raised from this event will be distributed to a range of local charities.
Quirindi Rural Heritage Village representative and member of the Sunflowers on the Plains Group, Sandra Saunders, was very excited to receive $2,000 for their Sunflower Head Throwing Competition. The funding will help them promote and expand on the first event that was held this year. The Village is run by volunteers so additional attractions like these helps raise much needed funds to maintain the Village grounds and facilities.
“Council is extremely pleased to support the six successful applications in this round of funding. Like all those applications the Community Fund has supported over the years, we envisage these projects will make a meaningful and lasting difference for our community, and assist in promoting our local region,” Mayor Hawkins concluded.
