Work begins on Quipolly Water Project pipeline

Contractors have begun laying 200mm waterpipe from the current Werris Creek water treatment plant, the first steps in a project that will deliver a secure and consistent supply to the town and the region.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council General Manager Jo Sangster and senior staff members met with Gongues Constructions on Thursday to discuss the progress of the project to date.
An estimated four kilometres of 200mm and 250mm pipeline will be laid along Black Gully Road to Lowes Creek Road to link the site of the proposed water treatment plant at the foot of the 8,000 megalitre capacity Quipolly Dam.
In total 21km of pipeline worth an estimated $7 million will be installed, linking the water treatment plant to Werris Creek and to Quirindi. This investment also includes the pipeline design and the design and construction of a new reservoir at Werris Creek.
Work on the pipeline section of the project is expected to be completed mid-way through 2022.
The state-of-the-art technology incorporated in the design of the water treatment plant will manage algal bloom outbreaks and deliver a consistent quality of water supply to residents of Werris Creek.
Up to 80 full time jobs are envisaged for the two-year construction period. These jobs and the opportunities for local businesses to be involved will provide valuable and welcome stimulus to the local economy.
