Work on Waste Transfer Stations progressing

Construction work on waste transfer stations (WTS) at Premer, Spring Ridge and Caroona is expected to be completed in December.
The new WTS construction will also include remediation of landfills at the three communities as well as Pine Ridge.
General waste from the three WTS will be transported to the Quirindi landfill on a daily basis with no waste material left on site.
Each of the WTS have vehicle access ramps in place, each involving the packing of about 1,250 cubic metres of gravel and stone-filled gabion walls, which will have an asphalt seal to complete the construction.
The change in waste dumping and removal policy will also see increased attention on preventing and combating illegal dumping.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council’s General Manager Joanne Sangster said illegal dumping of waste was a concern to all members of the community.
“I’m urging our ratepayers and community member to report illegal dumping,” she said.
“The cost to council and thus you the ratepayers is escalating and while we are trying to watch every dollar spent, we don’t need to divert funding from important tasks to repair illegal actions by a few.
“Council should not have to spend money on security cameras and cleaning up after others because they are too inconsiderate to make the effort to dispose of their waste properly.
“As Council approaches the closure of most landfills in the shire and the opening of the Willow Tree landfill in 2023, we will all be tightly focussing on reusing, recycling and reducing the waste we throw out every week.
“Just by cutting by half the amount of waste we plan to put in the Willow Tree landfill, was can then effectively double the life of the complex,” she said.
The WTS at Caroona, Spring Ridge and Premer will all be fitted with security cameras to capture any illegal dumping behaviour. However, Council is appealing to members of those communities to be watchful and report any anti-social behaviour.
