Cloudy, white, or milky water
Air trapped inside pressurised water pipes converts to tiny air bubbles which gives water a white or milky appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What causes cloudy or milky water?
This can happen during planned maintenance on the water supply network or during emergency repairs to fix a fault in the network. Work within the consumers pipework, or issues with hot water system anodes can also cause milky water.
How long will cloudy water last?
Generally, after filling a glass, jug, or container with water from a tap and allowing it to sit for 10 minutes, it should be clear after settling as the bubbles rise to the top and escape.
What should I do when cloudy water appears?
Fill a glass, jug or container with water and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. It should be clear after settling.
If the water does not clear after this amount of time, call Liverpool Plains Shire Council on 02 6746 1755 (9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday) to report the cloudy water as soon as the incident occurs.
